No one has said the right answer to my last riddle yet. Hint: It's not a person.

Another Who Am I? riddle: this can be any person, place, or thing in Harry Potter's world.

I’ve listened to misers, and aided kaisers.
My favorite pet loves lovers of lovers.
I may hold, back, or hold back the truth.
I wasn’t the first to speak for you.

Here's another HP "Who Am I?" riddle that I don't think I've posted before:

I can give back what you give me,
But say the word and I’ll give more.
I once gave words of friendship,
And distraction from odious chores.

If you had only asked me,
I could have shown you the truth;
It would have saved you from your grief,
And saved me from my ruin.

I'm off to teach my ESOL class in a little bit. Last night I had nine students, which is a pretty big turn-out for the class. I feel a bit less nervous about tonight (more students, up to a certain point, are easier to teach in many ways.) You know, it's funny. I know that teaching is a good thing for me, and I would say that I "enjoy" it. But I do tend to always dread my upcoming class. But then, at the end of class, I always feel so good (well, almost always), and it's not because it's over with, but because I feel like I've accomplished something. Does that make any sense?

'Tis a bit troublesome to keep track of House points, so I think this and future riddles will be just for fun.

You know, I've always been kind of stuck on making riddles rhyme--I <3 http://www.rhymezone.com/ --but I liked this one so much in free verse, that I decided not to force rhymes on it. It makes it sound more like a fragment of desperate, angsty love poetry, I think.

A brand new Guess the Ship riddle )

It is time to bring this round of the HP Riddle Championship to a close.

As for the last riddle, it seems several of you came up with some creative answers. I got a kick out of reading the comments this morning. :) Knight Bus/Flying Ford Anglia? Brilliant. Would that it were the answer. But alas, it is not. I hope none of you will be writing me any angry letters because I am hopelessly obvious and straightforward, and not nearly as subtle and trixy as your answers. Or because I have a dreadful OBHWF bias.

The terribly obvious answer was… )

And the Riddle Championship Cup goes (appropriately) to Slytherin, who beat out the other Houses with a grand total of 60 points. Professor Snape is very proud of his House, and of his star snake-ling [livejournal.com profile] bluemeanies4, I’m sure.

The final tallies for the other Houses are as follows:

Gryffindor (redwood, veela): 40
Ravenclaw (angua): 35
Hufflepuff (lilac, piper, Cedric): 25

And thank you to all the participants for responding, even those who did not manage to nab any points. I had fun, and I hope you did, too.

That brings this exercise to a close—until my muse visits again.

Yes, it’s time for the last riddle. I briefly considered making this one worth 100 points, just to give the other Houses a chance, but alas, I am not as unfair as Albus “last minute points” Dumbledore, and I cannot really justify making it worth more than twenty. Yes, it did give the Guess the Ship thread regulars a hard time, but it shouldn’t be too tricky for all you canon-philes out there.

But first, the answer to the last riddle, which was correctly guessed by [livejournal.com profile] bluemeanies4, of course:

Answer )

And the last riddle (until I am so inclined to write more) is another ship riddle:

Riddle #13 )

Hey! I just remembered I should post another riddle. Er…got kinda distracted there with “real life”, you know. [livejournal.com profile] bluemeanies4 and [livejournal.com profile] piperx get the credit for figuring out the two possible answers for the last riddle.

Answers )

The House points currently stand thus:
Ravenclaw (angua): 35
Slytherin (meanies): 50
Gryffindor (redwood, veela): 20
Hufflepuff (lilac, piper, points donated by veela in honor of Cedric *sniff*): 25

Just two riddles left to go, though it appears a Slytherin victory is nearly inevitable. Figures.

This next riddle is another Who Am I?

Riddle #12 )

I originally wrote it with three couplets, but I thought the first one gave too much away, so I cut it. If this shorter version proves too difficult, I will add the first couplet back on.

Riddle #10 was correctly guessed by [livejournal.com profile] prettyveela. You go girl!

And the answer was… )

I was going to wait a little to post this next one, but LJ is slow today, so here is another ship riddle.

Riddle #11 )

I know of two different people the "he" could be and still have all the clues work, so I'll give ten points to whoever gets the answer that I originally thought of when I wrote this, and five to anyone who guesses the other possibility.

Now back to cleaning and catching up on paperwork. *heavy sigh*

It appears I only have four riddles left in my archives, so when we get to #13, I will announce a House Cup winner. I believe Slytherin has now pulled back into the lead.

Of course, I may someday write more of these, if the inspiration strikes me. ;)

Now, for the next riddle. This is another Who Am I?, which means the answer can be any person, place, creature, or thing in the HP world.

Riddle #10 )

In other news, I’ve been poking around FAP a few times since Easter, but nothing much seems to be going on there. :(

Oops! I forgot to post the winner of and answer for Riddle #6! [livejournal.com profile] lilac_bearry was the first to get it right.

Answer for Riddle #6 )

And [livejournal.com profile] angua9 gets the credit for answering Riddle #7.

Answer for Riddle #7 )

With the addition of Angua’s 10 points for Ravenclaw, the tally stands thus:

Ravenclaw (angua): 35
Slytherin (meanies): 30
Gryffindor (redwood): 15
Hufflepuff (lilac): 10

Now for a couple of new riddles. These are also ships, and they are often (though not always) shipped together, which is why I’m posting both at once.

Riddle #8 )
Riddle #9 )

Warning: Poetic license taken with Riddle #8.

A few months ago I was reading Arabella’s Hermione, Queen of Witches, and I came across a section where a certain scene from canon is described. I found the way it was phrased…interesting. It inspired me to write this next riddle. ‘Tis another ship.

Riddle #7 )

Later tonight I will post a tally of House Points. I suspect Slytherin is secretly in the lead.

H. Baggins

BTW, doesn’t anyone want to ask me questions? *pouts*

Congratulations to [livejournal.com profile] angua9 and [livejournal.com profile] redwood7 for correctly guessing the last riddle!

Answer for Riddle #5 )

This next riddle is yet another ship.

Riddle #6 )

I’ve taken a bit of poetic license, here. I do not think the books indicate that these two characters are currently considering each other romantically. I just needed some rhymes, mmkay?

Ten points each to the respective Houses of [livejournal.com profile] bluemeanies4 and [livejournal.com profile] redwood7 (or 20 points to their House, if [livejournal.com profile] redwood7 is also in Slythe Ravenclaw). Once again, [livejournal.com profile] bluemeanies4 was first to correctly guess the last riddle, but [livejournal.com profile] redwood7 also answered with an excellent explanation.

Answer and explanation )

Now tonight’s riddle was my very first Harry Potter riddle. It is actually about two ships.

Riddle #5 )

Closed book, you might never get it, but open book I think it’ll be pretty easy.

H. Baggins

Well, we’re still on Riddle #4, as no one has been able to guess it yet. Here it is again:

Riddle #4 )

Here are some hints that may help:
1) [livejournal.com profile] bluemeanies4 was right in thinking: "Handyman"- the quotation marks indicate that the answer is non-conventional, and not a carpenter or builder.
2) This ship really is canon. Like Cedric/Cho. Only not them.
3) Incorrect guesses so far: Filch/Mrs. Norris, Cedric/Cho, Wormtail/Bertha Jorkins, Tom/Ginny, Lockhart/someone, and Trelawney/someone.
4) Only some versions of the Orion story have this in it. It has to do with who was mad at Orion and why.

Well, I got a pretty good response with my last riddle, so I thought I would try posting another one. :) Congrats to [livejournal.com profile] bluemeanies4 for correctly guessing that the last one was Sir Cadogen/Fat Lady.

In case anyone wants an explanation )

Of all the HP riddles I've written, this next is the one I am proudest of, so I hope that you like it. It was originally posted in the Who Am I? thread, which means the answer can be any person, place, creature, or thing in the HP world.

Riddle #2 )

Any takers?

You know, the thing I’ve missed most about FAP, more than SCUSA (which I have hardly missed at all) or the debate and CSHH threads (which I was already missing after the format changed anyway), has been the various riddle and trivia threads I used to frequent.

Anyway, since, to my knowledge, none of you have visited those threads much, I thought I might recycle a few of my old riddles, and see if anyone wants to try and guess them.

Most of my riddles appeared on the Guess the Ship thread, which means that the answers to them will be (duh) ships. These can be canon ships, canon-likely ships, fanon ships, and completely off-the-wall, random pairings of two characters that no one would bother to actually ship even in fanon. I have riddlefied both ships I love, and ships I…well, let’s just say that, yes, I’ve riddlefied H/Hr, too. ;)

I don’t know if this will interest any of you or not, but it seems to be a bit of a slow day on LJ, so I thought I’d give it a try.

And now, without further ado, Riddle #1 )

You could, of course, cheat by searching my old FAP posts to find the answer, but I’m sure no one would do that. ;)

Hymnia Baggins

ETA: I've been playing around with my interests today, adding and deleting some things here and there. Can it really be that I am the only person on LJ who is interested in "ship debate"? *raises eyebrows skeptically*
