I've decided to create a community for prolife fandomers. Before I do it, I would like some help on two decisions:

1) Should it be just for HP fans, or should I open it up to include other fandomers?
2) What should I call it? I can't find a name I'm totally satisfied with, but here are a few I've been kicking around:

1. life_fans
2. fans_for_life
3. prolife_fans
4. prolife_geeks (or nerds or dorks or whatever)
5. right_over_easy
6. choose_right
7. prolife_fandom
8. wizardsforlife
9. prolife_wizards

4 and 5 are inspired by Dumbledore's speech in GoF about choosing what is right instead of what is easy, which is something that comes to my mind a lot when reading the discussion about abortion.

8 and 9 would only be used if I decided to make the comm specifically for HP fans.

If you are interested in joining the community, please comment with your input. Keep in mind that LJ names must not be greater than 15 characters long.

Also, I am curious where the people on my flist stand on the matter of abortion. So I've created a poll. *sigh* I really hope people aren't offended by this. I know that abortion discussion can get a bit personal, so I make no demands on anyone to vote on the questions in this poll. How much you want to disclose is entirely up to you.

However, I will request that everyone on my flist please answer the last question on the poll, about whether or not you want to be on my political filter. I'm sure I will be making future posts about abortion, the election, and other political issues. Some of my posts will be public. Others, I will lock. Please let me know whether or not you want to be able to read the locked entries.

[edit]Okay, it looks like I'm going to have to post the poll in a new entry. Sorry 'bout that.[/edit]

Last, I want to make sure to tell all of my pro-choice friends that you have my respect, even if I can't agree with you.

Grace and peace,

Joie

Looks like I'm the first to respond. I didn't answer the second question, because it felt funny as it was a hypothetical, and I've actually had a crisis pregnancy. I (obviously) went through with my pregnancy (at age 16) and had twins, but I'm still very pro-choice.

I'm also very liberal in general, but I would enjoy being on your filter, as I think healthy exchange of ideas is a good thing. As long as I'm welcome to disagree. ;)

Hey, the poll disappeared. Oh. You just posted about that.

Thanks for your input! Unfortunately, I screwed up the poll, so you will have to vote again when I get it fixed.

I included the hypotheitcal question, because I know that to a lot of people what they personally would choose is an important distinction. That is, I often hear, "I could never have an abortion myself, but I think other people should be free to have that choice."

Hmmmmm... I think I pushed "post" too soon. To clarify: I said "never" for having an abortion myself, but actually I would have an abortion to preserve my own health (if it was endangered by being pregnant).

About the filter -- I don't want to be on it if it is all pro-life stuff, but if it is a variety of political posts, including pro-life, I do.

Sorry for over-quick finger.

To be honest, I don't expect to lock political entries very often. If I do, it is very likely that they will at least touch on the issue of abortion. That's about the only issue that I take an extreme postion on--and it's a pretty unpopular position. Hence, it's the main political issue that I would feel a need to lock my entries on.

I fancy "right_over_easy" because it reminds me of eggs. ;)

And it should be for all fandomers. We all are the same, anyway. ;)

*snerk* I know! That's what makes me reluctant to use it, actually. Otherwise I would've just used that one instead of asking for input, because I love the AD speech about choosing what is right instead of what is easy SO MUCH, and I couldn't think of any other way to squish that idea into fifteen characters or less. But do you like it, really?

I do, because it does remind me of Dumbledore's speech and, eggs or no, it's a great point to make in fifteen characters or less.

I'm not good with names. But every time I see "right_over_easy" from now on, I'm going to think of eggs.
