[Poll #342387]

Edit: Um...okay, what the hex? I just spent all that time trying to fix the poll so that it would give "Undecided or other" as a choice for the third question, and yet...it's not there! Grr...All right. I am NOT redoing the poll again. If you are "Undecided or other" for question #3, comment and say so. *sigh*

Edit 2: "Never" may be a bit extreme wording for question number two. Even I (and most pro-lifers I know) would abort in a sitution like, say, an ectopic pregnancy. I mean, duh! Even if you believe a fetus is a person with as much right to live as anyone else, it's still better for only one person to die instead of two.

I selected "always or almost always legal" because, while I'm staunchly pro-life, women ought to have the option to have an abortion if they unfortunately decide to go that route. We've seen the results of making abortion illegal, and I wish that people'd realize what abortion really is for it to be illegal once again, but until then I'm all for the government educating women about the alternatives to abortion. The more we make women aware of the alternatives and the benifits to those alternatives the more we can move on to making abortion illegal. If that makes any sense.

But yanno, the government can do all those things and make abortion illegal, anyway. So, hum. Too bad I can't change my vote. ;)

You actually can change your vote. Just click on "Fill Out Poll" again. I shouldn't have read your answers before I wanted to comment, because those are basically the same reasons I say that I'm neither pro-choice nor pro-life and why I said abortion should "always or almost always be legal." I abhor abortion and couldn't ever have one or advise someone to have one, but I think making abortion illegal would actually endanger more lives. Education should be the important thing.

Okay. Just changed. Thanks for the info!

And, yeah. Education should be advocated more than it is. Often people make huge mistakes because they haven't been well educated or informed about their options. If the government can't be the ones to educated women, then other groups must go out there and do it.

I said always or almost always illegal, but I think it's complicated; in some situations, I think abortion probably is a legitimate/reasonable solution.

Consider me an "other" for question three.

I'd love to be on your political filter, I always enjoy reading others opinions on things. (Even when we agree.=)) Just one question, how will I know when discussion is wanted?

Discussion is almost always wanted, so you can assume that it is unless I say otherwise. The main reason I cut you off on my older post is because it was an older post, and I had made two more posts on similarly controversial subject matter tonight, including a poll which is always an invitation for people to voice diverse opinions. In short, I was feeling stressed about the high level of potential controversy on my LJ tonight, and I wanted to save the discussion you were proposing (which could get very long and involved) for another time when I could focus more on that, and also for an entry that would actually get seen by other people who might wish to participate, rather than one that is probably no longer on the first page of most people's flists.

In general, if I wanted to post something that was purely a rant, and didn't want any feedback from people with significantly different viewpoints, I would post it on one of my prolife LJ communities, or filter it for only people that I know hold the same view, or make it a private post.

In a crisis pregnancy, I'd probably choose an abortion. If my doctor told me that I was going to die if I had the baby, I'd want the option of abortion.

Pro-choice and Pro-life people are both Pro-life in a sense, but one wants the option of abortion while the other one does not.

Hmm...maybe I am misunderstanding you, but it sounds like you might have answered that question thinking by "crisis pregnancy" I meant a situation in which a woman's life or health is threatened. What I really meant was any pregnancy in which there might be a reason to abort, namely:

1) A pregnancy in which the woman does not wish to have a child at the present time
2) A pregnancy in which the woman's partner or family does not want her to have a child at the present time
2) A pregnancy where the health or life of the mother is threatened
3) A pregnancy where the child is expected to have birth defects

All of those are what I would call "crisis pregnancies."

Er...maybe you did know that's what I meant, but I wanted to clarify, just in case.

Ohhhh that's what you mean! Well when I saw "crisis", the only one I think is a crisis is number 3(which you marked number 2 but oh well, lol).

Thanks for clarifying, I like to discuss things like this. :)

I'm not crazy about the terms "pro-life" and "pro-choice" for several reasons. I use them mainly because there are also difficulties with any of the alternatives I know of. *yawn* But I won't go into that now.
